Marathons & Mates

I never cease to be amazed at the incredible energy, thoughtfulness and compassion for others shown by your many friends. In May 2010, Nick Abbott ran a half marathon while still at uni, raising lots of money for your Memorial Fund. Then Jane and friends ran a full marathon at Brighton, again for MIND. This September, Hannah F (battling knee injury), Hannah T and Vicky raised almost £2K for MIND running To The Beat in your memory, another half marathon from the O2 in Greenwich all round the borough, finishing in Greenwich Park. (we also saw Bert running too and had a big sweaty hug from him en route, bless him!) I squeezed into the Old Seds rugby shirt to watch the race, it was baking hot just watching all the runners well enough actually running that day. Then next April, Chelsea has won a place in the London Marathon, also running for MIND in your memory. For your 24th birthday (our fifth year without you) next May, Jamie is heading up the organising of a fun day and birthday party to remember you and also to raise funds for MIND, RNLI & THE COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS - the charity for bereaved parents and siblings. I'm also hearing that Rory and James are running marathons abroad. I am so proud of them all and I hope you can see what they are doing, the effort they put into training, pounding streets to get the miles in, and then actually taking part in these marathons, maybe you even give them a bit of a lift along the way - I'm sure I've missed some names here but you'll know who's run what - and that they all deserve a gold medal. xxx
